Beautiful...from a distance
Buying furniture online has proven to be quite tricky and this is the last furniture purchase I'll make without having the opportunity to touch the piece first.
From a distance, the console looks beautiful, but open the doors or drawers and you quickly notice that this is not a quality item. Like many online furniture pieces, this console was made in China. What looks like metal in the online photos, is actually some sort of cheap plastic/wood composite that feels flimsy.
Our console has "spills" or "splashes" of stain, which you can't see from a distance, but once again, is quite noticeable up close. The stain used also has a strong smell, which I hope will fade over time. The shelves inside the cabinet are cheap plastic/wood composite and as long as you don't care what they look like, you'll be fine.
I gave the item three stars because it is quite attractive from a distance. It is the perfect size and look for our stair landing.
