I have several of these and am quite happy with them. They assemble in less than 1/2 hour, easily, with only a screwdriver and a hammer. They are a presswood with a simulated oak veneer. They look like the real thing, but because they are economy, they are not as rugged. A glass of water or plant cannot be placed on the veneer unprotected or water damage will result to the veneer. It cannot be repaired, so always have glass protectors under each cup or flower pot. With reasonable care, these units will last many, many years. If "dinged" by other furniture, the ding will result in a dent or chip in the veneer. If this happens, and it is not too serious, color the ding with a like-colored wood stain to hide the damage.

I like these night stands because they are inexpensive, look like real oak, and even if damaged, can be cheaply replaced with another. A comparable oak nightstand will cost hundreds of dollars more.
